Knowledge, Representation, and Reality

This teaching area is concerned with the nature of reality and our ability to know it. Courses in this area fall into several sub-disciplines, including (in alphabetical order) epistemology, metaphysics, philosophy of language, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of science.

These sub-disciplines respectively investigate the nature of human knowledge, the general structure of reality, the workings of human languages as psychological or social phenomena, the workings of the human mind, and the nature of scientific knowledge and the methods by which it is obtained.
